A painting has the unique power to immortalize moments we often miss. The majesty of a powerful storm rolling across a prairie ridge, the vivid colors of a flowering field off the roadside—the beauty of everyday scenes around us can get obscured by the rush of daily life. Scotty uses oils to create a rich and lively color palette that invites viewers to see these wonderments, such as the humble flower or the raging tempest, with a more reverent eye.
Much of his inspiration stems from spending his childhood surrounded by the beauty of the Texas and Missouri countryside, whether it is the wonderment of a Texas spring with bluebonnets flowering as far as the eye can see. Or standing awestruck, witnessing the fury and power of a Missouri summer storm. It's these tableaus that Scotty desires most to capture in his art. Moments where we are commanded by our Lord to "be still and know that I am God."
Ultimately, Scotty wants us to know that there is something much bigger than ourselves and to never forget that we are but a piece of the I AM. Knowing there is hope and beauty in all that we observe and all that we ignore. Moments that reveal depth in the unexpected or overlooked. Scotty, through his art, gives us that reminder to seek and savor these fleeting, perfectly imperfect moments that make up our journey through this mortal coil.
